Anson: So basically we have this hidden language the players know that Im using with the press thats designed to sort of protect them, but also designed to let them know theyre not good enough yet. Why arent they there? He says one factor is 12 Core Values. And then sure enough, were following it, and it does. And so what is critical is, you know, who we end up recruiting. Anson: But basically I try to get them out of my system. Melissa: Bye-bye. If they think theyre Gods gift to the game, I will never try to deconstruct that. We took into our environment. One of the most destructive things in athletics are the whiners. And in a very low voice she said yes. Anson: Well, its hit or miss, I mean. All of Us Can Be Excellent. Most certainly. Its not just the Jack Welch speech. So I think, yeah, business can save the world. So now she and I can sit on the same side of the desk, put the numbers up there on the screen and say you know what, I think youre better than this. If its the two bigs against two other bigs, theyre having a little two V two competition underneath the basket. The top three in my program ended up winning gold medals in the Olympics, and ended up winning world championships in the United States. And all of a sudden their hands were in the air. So all of a sudden I was collecting all this data on all of the kids and what their teammates thought of their character. And what he was telling us is who we are trying to recruit, and who we are trying to train right now. Every person is different. And so I want to be able to write them a brilliant recommendation into any part of their future. Being best on my team is good enough for where you want to go. But talent is just so overwhelmingly tempting. That should be your perspective, is your bottom line, and heres the way you construct the most aggressive bottom line. But if this persons going to be toxic to your culture and is going to be so incredibly selfish, thats not the person to hire.
